Description
The Mr. Mick range allows us to experiment with varieties that are new and innovative in the Australian marketplace. Many of these varieties are very successful styles on the international wine scene and more importantly, are very comfortable with their roots in Clare Valley soils.
The Vermentino is always one of the most exciting wines at release. Made in very small quantities, the winemaking approach to the wine keeps in mind the philosophy and tradition of the Mr. Mick range of ‘wines for everyone to enjoy’ while respecting the variety’s singularities and characteristics. The wine has lifted grapefruit, pear, white peach and chamomile flower aromas and flavours, modelled in the classic Italian style. A refreshing crushed rock minerality and spritely natural acidity. Being a popular Italian variety with its origin on the island of Sardinia, but also spread along the southern coast of France.
Winemaking Notes
Harvested in the cool of the early morning, the grapes were crushed and only the free-run juice was kept to make this year’s wine.
After clarification, the juice was steady fermented at a low temperature for over two weeks. The result is a rich, textural yet seamless palate and a vibrant natural acidity and purity of fruit.
Food Pairing
The Vermentino is a great wine to sit, sip and enjoy for its individuality, and is suited to a broad array of cuisines.
